Each of our patients is thought of as an extension of our family and treated with compassion and genuine care.

Regular dental examinations at least twice a year are recommended by the American Dental Association for children and adults of all ages. During your examination, Dr. Omohundro will check each tooth and the surrounding tissues including your gums, tongue, and cheeks. By doing this, he will inspect every tooth for cavities, assess plaque levels to determine if gum disease is present, and look for any damage such as broken teeth. Also, Dr. Omohundro will provide oral cancer examinations as well as examine your temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. Looking at your tissues and teeth will allow him to write up a personalized treatment plan for each individual patient.
To ensure your teeth and supporting structures are healthy, Dr. Omohundro may take a complete set of oral X-rays during your initial visit. This allows him to diagnose cavities, identify any pre-existing bone loss, and check for any abnormal lesions. Radiographs are not mandatory, but are highly recommended once a year and before certain dental procedures.
Dr. Omohundro’s plan of action will be thoroughly explained to you so a clear understanding is reached before any dental work is started. It is important to him that his patients know what the finish line looks like and what can be done to get there.
After the examination is complete, Dr. Omohundro or one of his dental professionals will perform a complete dental cleaning. Professional cleanings are encouraged to prevent or slow the process of gingivitis (gum disease), dental decay, and periodontitis (bone loss).
While dental decay and periodontitis are the top causes of tooth loss, it is important to remember that proper oral hygiene must be kept up at home on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding certain foods and drinks that may be harmful to your teeth. During your visit Dr. Omohundro will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding your personal oral hygiene and how to best care for your teeth.
